Sri Lankan writer Shehan Karunathilaka wins 2022 Booker Prize

Sri Lankan writer Shehan Karunathilaka has won the 2022 Booker Prize, one of the most prestigious awards in literature, representatives of the award announced on the official website.

The award was presented to the writer by UK Queen Consort Camilla as part of an awards ceremony held in London on October 17th. Shehan Karunathilaka will receive a cash prize of £50,000 (approximately $60,000).

In addition to Shehan Karunathilaka’s work, this year's shortlist for the award includes five books by authors from five countries: NoViolet Bulawayo (Glory), Claire Keegan (Small Things Like These), Alan Garner (Treacle Walker), Percival Everett (The Trees), Elizabeth Strout (Oh William!). 87-year-old writer Alan Garner was the oldest author ever nominated for the award, and Claire Keegan's Small Things Like These, which has 116 pages, was the shortest book in the history of the award.
